Important Tax Deadlines

Here are key tax deadlines for the 2017 Tax Year (unless otherwise noted). On time tax filing and payments should be made to avoid paying penalties and interest. If you have to file an extension and owe money, you should remit the estimated amount due at the time of extension filing.

Individual Income Tax Returns

01/29/18
IRS begins processing tax returns, both electronically-filed and paper-filed.
04/17/18
Deadline to file Individual tax returns (Form 1040) OR to request for a 6-month extension (Form 4868).
10/15/18
Final deadline to file Individual tax returns, if an extension was filed (Form 1040).

Business Tax Returns

01/29/18
IRS begins processing tax returns, both electronically-filed and paper-filed.
03/15/18
  • Deadline to file Partnership and S-Corporation tax returns (Forms 1065, 1120S) OR to request for an 6-month extension (Form 7004).
  • Deadline to file Trust and Estate tax returns (Form 1041) OR to request for an 5.5-month extension (Form 7004).
04/17/18
Deadline to file C-Corporation tax returns (Form 1120) OR to request for an automatic 6-month extension (Form 7004).
09/17/18
Final deadline to file Partnership and S-Corporation tax returns (Forms 1065, 1120S), if an extension was filed.
04/17/18
Deadline to file C-Corporation tax returns (Form 1120) OR to request for an automatic 6-month extension (Form 7004).
10/1/18
Final deadline to file Trust and Estate tax returns (Form 1041), if an extension was filed.
10/15/18
Final deadline to file C-Corporation tax returns (Form 1120), if an extension was filed.

Quarterly Estimated Tax Payments

01/16/18
4th Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due for 2017 tax year.
04/17/18
1st Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due for 2018 tax year.
06/15/18
2nd Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due for 2018 tax year.
09/17/18
3rd Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due for 2018 tax year.
01/15/19
4th Quarter Estimated Tax Payment Due for 2018 tax year.

1099 Forms

01/31/18
  • Deadline for employers to mail out Form W-2 to employees and for businesses to furnish Form 1099 statements.
  • Forms 1099 and 1096 due to the IRS, if filing on paper or electronically (for 1099-MISC with Box 7).
02/15/18
Deadline for financial institutions must mail out 1099-B and 1099-DIV forms by this date.

IRA Contributions

04/17/18
Last day to make a contribution to traditional IRA, Roth IRA, Health Savings Account, SEP-IRA, or solo 401(k) for the 2017 tax year. You have until October 15 to fund a SEP-IRA or solo 401(k) if you get an extension
